This is an unofficial group formed with the aim of supporting the Devon Wildlife Trust. We hope to start an official Chulmleigh DWT local group.
There are currently six local groups: Barnstaple & District, Bovey Tracey, Exeter, Exmouth, Halsdon & Dolton and Tavistock.
The DWT's plans to inspire more groups were put on hold due to the pandemic, but a few of us from Sustainable Chulmleigh thought we would make a start. We contacted the DWT in June and have been placed on their register of interest.

Exeter is positioning itself as a global leader in sustainable living, but many obstacles to becoming a world-class environmental exemplar remain. If reality is to match rhetoric, significant local challenges must be met.
Attempts to deal with such problems are hampered by the way public policy is determined and delivered. Meanwhile other powerful yet unaccountable organisations and actors also significantly influence decision-making which affects us all.
Good quality local news coverage can help address these issues by providing accurate, relevant, timely information about who is deciding what on whose behalf and how the bill for these decisions will be paid.
However, the capacity of the press to perform these essential public interest tasks has been eroded and the editorial independence of existing local media is at risk.
Exeter Observer is part of an agile, innovative local news sector that has emerged in response to these systemic challenges to deliver independent community journalism with public interest at its heart.

Food Plymouth’s Dig for Devonport Community Explorers initiative is one of nine community projects to win funding from the Great Western Railway (GWR) community improvement fund. This project is part of Food Plymouth’s work with our partners to improve food links between the city and the Tamar Valley. Community explorers will include seasonal events to explore the valley and its culinary treasures by train. Another aim is to highlight the distinctive and delicious Tamar Valley cherry varieties and to find places to plant such trees in Plymouth, especially near the city’s railway stations. The first event will be a blossom walk in May, followed by a visit to a cherry orchard, foraging walks, harvesting events and a wassail.
Community Explorers co-ordinator Tess Wlmot commented: “I am really excited at the potential of this project. It will help Plymouth residents to discover how accessible the Tamar Valley is by train and connect them with the seasonal produce there. We can bring some of this abundance back to Plymouth through purchasing food at local markets, foraging, skill sharing and planting some of the wonderful local Tamar Valley cherry varieties in the city.”

We are a group of residents in and around Chulmleigh who care deeply about the environment in which we live and want to ensure its future for generations to come.
We welcome polite discussion, positive ideas and respectful comments from all. Please feel free to share anything you feel may be of interest to the group, especially ideas on reducing, re-using and recycling purchases, and any sites you feel may be relevant to the group.
Climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem destruction are very real problems, but we can all help to be a part of the solution.
Be kind and courteous
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
