Devon Wildlife Trust Local Group
From September to April we meet once a month in Barnstaple's Castle Centre for talks given by speakers on a range of conservation issues
An ambitious programme
Our ambitious outdoor programme of wildlife experiences allow the group to enjoy nature first hand. These almost always include a walk of some kind: a mix of easy as well as more strenuous routes, from flat stretches of old railway track, to the moors and valleys of Exmoor, to the challenges of Culm grassland, to the cliffs of Hartland. New members are always welcome to any of our events!
Nature reserves
Uppacott Wood - We hold winter work parties at this lovely reserve just a couple of miles outside Barnstaple, undertaking activities such as coppicing and making clearings to encourage spring flowers and summer butterflies. In the summer we introduce people to the wood with guided walks. Some local group members are voluntary wardens here too.
We undertake activities and warden voluntarily on other local nature reserves: e.g. Swanpool Marsh in Braunton.

Sustainable Crediton's mission is to help people in Crediton and the local area to lead more sustainable lifestyles and work towards a carbon neutral future.
We see a positive future where people value and respect the environment and understand the need to conserve the natural world and its finite resources. Join us and help us to ensure Crediton remains a place we are all proud to live in.
Sustainable Crediton, formerly known as Crediton Climate Action, is a growing group of local people who share concerns about the effects of Climate Change and increasingly expensive and scarce oil supplies. Our aim is to raise awareness in our community and also to mobilise action in order to respond effectively and positively to these challenges.
Sustainable Crediton is a member of the international Transition Town network that aims to inspire, support, train and connect communities that are exploring the transition from fossil fuel dependency towards local self sufficiency and a low carbon lifestyle. This will result in a life that is fulfilling, enjoyable, with community spirit and capable of coping with the challenges of climate change and scarce oil supplies. Crediton and the surrounding villages are an area of abundant natural resources plus a wide variety of human interests, expertise and skills. We can all profit by creating a future aimed at sharing and expanding upon this great base.

We are an all-volunteer organisation which runs the town museum (including its family history Research Corner), maintains a substantial archive of local documents and photographs, and presents a fascinating programme of local history talks.
Crediton Area History And Museum Society was founded in September 1984 by a group of enthusiastic local historians led by Rev. Christopher Gilham who aimed to promote interest in local history and to provide Crediton with a museum. The society became a registered charity in 1991.
Crediton Museum and Heritage Centre opened in April 2010 in the ground floor room of the Old Town Hall in Crediton High Street. It is run entirely by volunteers with funds from grants, donations and fundraising events.
Over the last 25 years the Society has put on a number of successful exhibitions focusing on Crediton and its people at different periods of history. In addition, monthly lectures are held, usually at the Boniface Centre in Crediton, and visits to places of historic importance and occasional social events are organised.
The Society sends representatives to other committees such as those refurbishing the Town Hall, reinstating Upper Deck at George Hill, and Crediton Festivals.

TCR Radio CIC formed in April 2017 playing out on cold Saturday mornings before that from the local market, we then had a little studio at Petroc College. TCR is at its heart is a community radio station however we run things differently we don't have a schedule of presenters nor do we chase advertisers but you can sponsor us! Our strength is our mobility and flexibility. We are a registered social enterprise that is, we don't make a profit it goes back into what we offer and we give back to charities by our fund-raising too this year our charities were Marie Curie and Cayla's Fight. We can boost your local event with PA and music whether it be a school fete to The Mid Devon Show we keep costs low so you can benefit too and we actively promote on social media. We pride ourselves on our dedicated volunteers and we offer valuable work experience too to get onto the industry that has many offshoots. We are pretty unique and cover most of the 'Tons' from Tiverton to Bampton to Cullompton to Crediton to Honiton! We do pop up shows too.

The Blackdown Hills Rough Grazing Association is a landowner-led local group for owners and managers of rough, wildlife-rich grazing land.
Its aim is to encourage the active management of this characteristic type of land in the Blackdown Hills, to optimise its wildlife value and it economic relevance.
The Association pursues its aim by enabling owners and managers of rough, wildlife-rich land to communicate with each other, to share experience and to learn together.
The Association is independent of all agencies and external organisations and is run by local people, for local people. It is a constituted group with a small committee, with all members either owning rough land, being responsible for managing it, or having an interest in it.
The Blackdown Hills Rough Grazers Association was set up in early 2014 by a small group of landowners and managers, following the ‘Beef & Butterflies’ project.
We aim to give a voice to local people who own and manage the traditional pastures and meadows in the Blackdown Hills. The Hills contain generations of knowledge about these special places, and we want to help share that knowledge.
The rough, wet grazing land in the Blackdowns is hard to farm but rich in wildlife – we want it, and its owners, to thrive.

Working with nature and local communities, we aim to make the river better for wildlife and people, and more resilient to flood and drought. We want to collaborate with those living in the River Culm catchment to help solve the river’s problems. As a part of this, we will use proven nature-based solutions that provide many other benefits too.
