The Brixham Fairtrade Working Group is a small but dedicated bunch of volunteers who came together in 2014 with a common goal of achieving and maintaining Fairtrade status for Brixham.
Brixham first achieved Fairtrade Town status in 2015 and successfully renewed in 2016.
Many of the businesses, churches and community groups in Brixham support Fairtrade trade. They use Fairtrade products and some sell Fairtrade products. This includes the Co-op stores and Oats Healthy Living and Café, both of which will amaze you with their variety and choice. At the Bay Coffee Company, the Berry Head Hotel, the Breakwater Bistro, the Front Room, the Hideaway, Millie and Me, the Old Market House and West Country Deli you can enjoy a cup of Fairtrade coffee whilst you are shopping in town or just strolling around. For the first time we have Brixham Airbnb joining us as a Fairtrade business.
Visits are constantly made to new cafes as they open in Brixham trying to encourage them to use Fairtrade products.
The town’s Fairtrade Group meets regularly to plan events in the town to promote Fairtrade. We are fortunate in having two Town Councillors as members of the Group with one being the secretary. Please continue to support the work of the Fairtrade Group by, whenever possible, buying Fairtrade goods from our local businesses. With Fairtrade you have the power to change the world every day. With one simple choice you can get producers a better deal. And that means they can make their own decisions, control their future and lead the dignified life everyone deserves.
The town’s Fairtrade Group is always looking for new members. If you are passionate about unfair trade and want to make a difference locally or to register as a Fairtrade supporting business, church or community group, please get in touch.

Did you know that Totnes is a Fairtrade Town and has been so since 2011? The town is home to a range of small independent retailers selling ethical products, whole foods and, most importantly, fair trade goods.
The start of Totnes’ journey to become a recognised Fairtrade Town began September 2006 when a small steering group was established and they began with asking Totnes Town Council to use Fairtrade tea and coffee and to ascertain which shops sold Fairtrade products. In less than a month it was established that 5 independent businesses and two high street brands in Totnes were selling Fairtrade products. This number was to grow.
Currently, there are 32 independent retailers in Totnes selling fair trade foods and homewares. (As of 2018)

Plymouth has been a Fairtrade City since 2004
Fairtrade Plymouth aims to unite all those working towards Plymouth's commitment to Fairtrade...whether you buy or consume Fairtrade products, offer them to your staff in your canteens or sell them...either in supermarkets or in local food outlets. By doing so you are helping to ensure the livelihoods and wellbeing of all those who grow and produce the products around the world. You are helping to ensure access to education, health services, water, legal representation and a fair wage amongst other things. Just remember when you pay for something you are "voting for the world you want". Fairtrade Plymouth is working on an Action Plan for the next few years and will be applying to renew the city's Fairtrade. Please be a part of it !

We want to make Bradninch a better place to live in the future by running events that benefit all residents, while reducing waste and being green!
Recent projects In 2020 we have been thrilled to be able to open our Bradninch Community Food Shed, in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic. Located in an old outhouse just off Fore Street, this project is a way of distributing waste food from supermarkets and food businesses to the public. We take their waste or leftover food, collected by our dedicated team of volunteers, then place it on our shelves or in our fridge. It is then free for anyone to take and use. It was open in time for the second Lockdown, providing free food for our community. It is also open for donations of food or dry goods from the community and there is a donation box in our local Spar shop.
Future plans Next year we will hopefully be running a number of online Zoom talks for members of our community to find out more about various aspects of sustainability. We will invite expert guest speakers to talk on a variety of subjects including energy, food, climate and composting. We would love to have a website and have been looking at collaborating with other local groups, including helping to set up other community fridges or larders.

Bradninch Together started on 13 March 2020 with an idea from Sophie West and Anthony Richards who connected through Reverend Oliver Mears
Over that initial March weekend Sue Eakers, Luke Taylor and Rev. Olly joined the group and began creating a support service for the local community in response to the Covid 19 pandemic. In May 2020, Sally Livsey and Glenn Roberts joined and brought experience in financial oversight and mental health matters. These were the founding Steering Group.
The geographical area covered by Bradninch Together has been zoned and each zone has coordinators and volunteers, numbering over 120, who provide practical and neighbourly support. We are also supported by people with specialist skills who are curating the website, creating artwork and advising on technical matters. We communicate widely using leaflets delivered by volunteers to households, local publications, a survey and our website and Facebook pages.
The BradAid fund was created in April 2020 distributing donated monies in small grants. The fund is administered by members of the Steering Group.
On 04 January 2021 Bradninch Together was incorporated as Community Interest Community Company with 6 Directors: Anthony Richards, Sophie West, Sue Eakers, Glenn Roberts, Sally Livsey and Kate Beith; we are the new Steering Group.
