Dynamic Dunescapes is an ambitious project, rejuvenating some of England & Wales' most important sand dunes for people, communities and wildlife.
Many of us know and love sand dunes as beautiful coastal landscapes, but they are also important biodiversity hotspots. These dunes are a sanctuary for rare species which are perfectly adapted to live in sand. At a healthy dune, you could find orchids, toads, birds and lizards thriving!
But these special creatures are at risk. Over time, many dunes have become covered by grass and scrub which have over-stabilised the sand, and invasive species have overtaken native ones. We now know that a dune environment needs areas of freely-moving sand, healthy sheltered dune slacks and areas with low vegetation to support its diverse wildlife. We’re using pioneering conservation techniques to rejuvenate the dunes and make their shifting sands the perfect home for our threatened wildlife again.

Food Plymouth is the City’s recognised Local Food Partnership
A ‘central connecting hub’ for all food-related matters in the City.
Our multi-sector award winning partnership, founded in 2010, comprises a diverse mix of agencies, organisations, businesses, community groups and individual citizens, all working together to actively promote and lobby for healthy, sustainable and affordable food as a driver for positive change.
The collaborative work of the Food Plymouth partnership is expressed through the six strands of our action plan, each of which focuses on transforming a different aspect of our food system. The six themes are illustrated in our symbolic lighthouse diagram, detail for each theme can be found on the Actions page.

The Museum of Dartmoor Life is a fascinating museum, dedicated to the interesting history of Dartmoor and its people. It is currently closed following government advice due to COVID-19 and will announce re-opening date as soon as the conditions change. (11/2/2021)
The Museum of Dartmoor Life’s museum’s original collection, which was transferred from a private museum, soon outgrew the space available and in 1983 sufficient grants and donations (£50,000 in total) had been raised to renovate the three-storey mill building. This entailed re-roofing the building and completely gutting the interior. As far as possible, the original architecture and construction was replicated,
In 2005 the museum closed for 12 months for extensive renovation and modernisation. This project cost some £700,000 and was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund with additional support from Okehampton Town Council, West Devon Borough Council, Devon County Council, the Okehampton United Charity and the Dartmoor National Park Authority. The improvements included new electrics and heating throughout the building, partial air-conditioning, a lift and modifications to facilitate access, a state-of-the-art exhibition gallery and new interpretive displays.
In recent years the museum has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a focal point for community activities, events and exhibitions. It provides a meaningful visitor experience and enjoys positive reviews from internal and external visitors. Volunteers have always been the lifeblood of the organisation and the museum’s current volunteers provide a range of services and disciplines to maintain the day to day operation.
Since 2014 the museum has undertaken the role of providing tourist information for North Dartmoor and the local area.

Our charity is dedicated to caring for and enhancing the South West's reservoirs and lakes: they are home to many wonderful animals and boast important habitats and built historic sites. We pride ourselves on enabling people of all abilities to enjoy these special locations by providing access both on and off the water.
Every year, millions of people visit lakes and reservoirs across the UK. They provide a perfect setting for a great day out, be it for a stroll, to play, nature watch or enjoy adventurous activities such as stand up paddle boarding, kayaking or sailing.
As an independent charity, our purpose is to protect special places for people and wildlife; in doing this we care for over 40 inland waters in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Ranging in size from one to nine hundred acres, the lakes provide unrivalled access to watersports, angling, walking and cycling, and are places you can be active or play and explore all day long.

Since its formation in 2017, Tavistock Heritage Trust's main objective has been to support Tavistock Town Council in formulating and delivering the Guildhall Gateway Centre, a £1.6 million project to renovate, conserve and repurpose Tavistock's Victorian Guildhall by converting the Grade II*-listed building into a new heritage interpretation centre. Once construction work is complete, the Trust will be responsible for running the Guildhall and providing both locals and visitors with a fascinating introduction to the heritage of the area, with a particular focus on the history of mining and criminal justice.
The Trust also has the broader goal of educating the public about all aspects of the unique history and heritage boasted by Tavistock and the local area. By organising guided walks, lectures, educational activities and all manner of other events, we aim to 'Bring Tavistock's Heritage to Life' for everyone and anyone with an interest. We also seek to be a positive force in the local community by providing a wide variety of interesting and satisfying volunteering roles, which will allow local people to develop new skills and meet new friends.
