MAKE Southwest (formerly Devon Guild of Craftsmen) is a contemporary craft centre with galleries and shop in Bovey Tracey, Devon, UK. We are now open from 11-5 Wednesday Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Our café and toilets are closed for now. (10/11/2021)
Located in Bovey Tracey on the edge of Dartmoor, our large gallery and shop offer a great venue with inspiring exhibitions and events, encouraging people to support, make and learn about contemporary craft.
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen was founded in 1955 by a small group of makers, led by Edward Baly, who were enthusiastic about the idea of promoting the best in regional craftwork. From 1956, and for the next 30 years, annual exhibitions at venues throughout South Devon were enthusiastically received.
In 1986 the Guild took the massive step of purchasing Riverside Mill. The building now houses a shop and 3 exhibition galleries, which stage over 20 exhibitions throughout the year!

What’s the opportunity?
So the United Nations and climate science say we have until just 2030 to cut global CO2 emissions. If we don’t do it, we risk the ability of future generations to be able to survive on this beautiful planet.
The good news is that most actions that save CO2 increase quality of life, health and wellbeing, and can save money too. Decarbonisation is also one of our biggest economic opportunities. Our low carbon society after 2030 will be a big step forwards for quality of life, and we’ll be healthier and happier! Read on to find out why.

And that’s ride2cop26 finished.
- 570 miles
- Loads of punctures
- Lots of weird snack combinations
- So much fun
- Some very gritty moments
- Lots of rain
- And most of all, so many incredible people who took part in the cargo relay or just joined for the ride for a few miles.
The greatest Thankyou to all the people who were involved.
Onwards to @cop26uk and then turning this adventure into a film (where we aim to share all the amazing stories of the climate crisis and collective action, we have heard along the way)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has advised that carbon emissions must reduce globally by at least 45% by 2030 from 2010 levels. There is a chance we can avoid the worst effects of climate change by keeping warming below 1.5 degrees. To achieve this we must be carbon neutral (net-zero) by 2050 or earlier.
In response, a range of public, private and voluntary organisations from across Devon came together on 22nd May 2019 to form the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group, to declare a climate and ecological emergency and to endorse the principles of the Devon Climate Declaration.
This recognises that we are aware of the significant implications of climate change for Devon’s communities and commits the signatories to work together on developing a Devon Carbon Plan, which is being developed by the Net-Zero Task Force.
Additionally, it recognises that we need to understand the near-term and future risks of climate change for Devon to plan for how our infrastructure, public services and communities will have to adapt for a warmer world. This work is being taken forward by the Climate Impacts Group.
