"Enthusing about wildlife in Topsham and East Devon".
A Society for those interested in the natural world around them, and in particular this area of Devon. A mix of indoor illustrated talks and fieldtrips sets the basis for the Society's activities. We endeavour to keep a balance between local and worldwide natural history, equally we try to look at a wide spectrum of flora and fauna.

Devon Wildlife Trust Local Group
Tavistock Local Group organises a programme of walks, talks and other activities throughout the year for the West Devon area. We are sure we have something to offer all nature enthusiasts, whether it be a birdwatching walk or a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Marine Aquarium.
Nature reserves
The DWT nearest reserves to Tavistock are Sourton Quarry, offering an ideal habitat for Greater and Lesser Horseshoe Bats, and Warleigh Point, with a combination of woodland bordered by estuary which guarantees a plethora of wildlife including nuthatches.

We run all kinds of wildlife-related activities, from guided walks and illustrated talks to practical work parties where you can get stuck in doing habitat management on our reserves. We also visit other locations in the surrounding areas in North Devon.
Nature reserves
Our nearest DWT nature reserve is Halsdon, which provides a perfect place to see wildlife on one of the many walks through woodland to the River Torridge and its surrounding water meadows.

Devon Wildlife Trust Local Group
We hold events such as talks, walks, wildlife activities and practical conservation tasks within the city boundary and beyond. Exeter Local Group focuses on making connections between local communities and wildlife. We often hold joint events with other local organisations such as Devon Bat Group: Exeter section and Devon Mammal Group, as well as get involved with projects such as Exeter Wild City.
Exeter's Wild Areas
The Old Sludge Beds is the only accessible DWT reserve within the city boundary. However, Exeter is fortunate to have a variety of green areas. Devon Wildlife Trust has recently taken over the management of a network of wildlife-rich Valley Parks, and Cricklepit Mill garden at the DWT office is a great example of how you can encourage biodiversity in an urban area. These and other wildlife-rich corners of Exeter are the focus of our events. Come with us and discover Exeter’s wild areas on our guided walks. Explore them through wild activities such as pond dipping and surveys that add to DWT’s knowledge and understanding of the sites. Conserve them through events that assist DWT’s staff with habitat creation and enhancement within these areas.
