Okehampton Community Garden is located in Fatherford Lane, next to the allotments. We hold regular social events, usually focused around a small bonfire, where we share food and enjoy one another's company.

Our membership currently includes people from a wide range of ages and social and economic backgrounds. A key project aim is one of social integration and the garden is specifically set up to appeal to as wide a range of people from across Okehampton town and hamlets as possible.

The Community Garden welcomes new members. Suitable for all ages and gardening abilities.

Community Garden sessions will begin again on April 17th. Our gardening sessions are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11am - 4pm

The Community Garden welcomes new members. Suitable for all ages and gardening abilities. Currently, due to Cover restrictions, we are unable to hold community gardening sessions, individual members are still permitted to go to the garden either individually or in their social bubble/members of the same household. To find out more about the garden please contact Linda 07928 735956 or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

During Covid-19 there no joining fee. We usually hold regular community gardening days, these are advertised on the garden gate as well as on here, we hope to resume these sessions later this year, once Covid-19 is 'over'. There is no on-going commitment. If you have enthusiasm and an interest in gardening then we would love to hear from you. We have a dedicated friendly group who look after the garden as well as members who occasionally come along to our week-end sessions, there are often only a handful of us there at any time. If you become a member then you may have access to work in the garden whenever suits you. There are other ways to get involved if gardening isn't your thing; we are happy to have people who would like to help us with coffee mornings or jam and chutney making and such like. We have also held Outdoor Tai Chi sessions, we look forward to seeing them start again, hopefully next year, our first session with Meditation in Nature sessions was in October and we hope to have more of this in the new year.

Growing in the garden: fruit trees, soft fruits, herbs, vegetables and flowers. We hope to keep the garden as organic/chemical free as possible. We have funding to replace the polytunnel cover, however social distancing rules prevents us from getting it on. Volunteers get a share of whatever food is grown in the garden.

Gardening is also a great way to keep fit and does wonders for your mental health.

Don't be shy, we would love to hear from you.
