When we opened Plymouth's only award winning bicycle shop and cafe, Rockets & Rascals, in Plymouth's historic Barbican quarter in the Spring of 2013 it made an immediate impact on the local cycling scene.
Six years on it’s achieving what it set out to do, get people riding bikes.
The mainstay of our store is the cafe, serving up great food, cakes and of course the kind of coffee that has earned us an amazing reputation for quality. Whilst we are not a bike store these days we play an active part of the cycling community with bike hire, cycling events and a range of cycling essentials, lifestyle clothing and emergency supplies.
Through the summer we have live music events and we’re an amazing venue for a party! There’s always something happening at Rockets & Rascals, check out our events listings for details. Our bike depot is situated in the middle of the cycle trail offering you the choice of cycling south towards Torrington and Meeth or North to Barnstaple then onto Braunton. My passion for chocolate was born of a love of adventure. That spirit took me to Venezuela, led me to buy Hacienda El Tesoro high in the cloud forest, and remains with me as my quest to make great chocolate takes me on the cacao trail around the Equator into the forests of the world, in search of the finest beans.
My chocolate is all about flavour. Great cacaos are like fine wines, each one with its own stunningly individual flavour born of its specific genetics, soil and climate. One might taste naturally of nuts, another of summer fruits. It is to capture these subtle notes and unique flavours that I make all my chocolate from the bean- which is called bean to bar chocolate! I buy single estate cacaos direct from the farmers, roast them in antique ball roasters and make them into chocolate using just raw cane sugar and natural cocoa butter – no soya lecithin, no vanilla, nothing that gets in the way of the flavour of the bean.

Tucked away in the heart of rural Devon is Taw River Dairy, owned and run by Sam, a passionate young farmer with a love for animals and the countryside and a passion for natural farming that produces top quality dairy.
Sam comes from a farming background and has worked hard within the agricultural sector since a young age. The land base and livestock have been built up by Sam over the years, after starting with nothing we feel this is quite an achievement.
We are a small, local team with a combined interest in farming sustainably and as naturally as possible, allowing all our cows to rear their own calves is fundamental to our holistic beliefs. Although this is not a modern farming method it does take us back to basics, back to our roots and back to the ways our grandparents kept dairy cows. After all Sam’s Grandfather provided milk in a very similar way for the local area more than 60 years ago so it is in our heritage to do the same. Our dream is to share this with you and provide you with our ethical premium products.
