The historical mill town of Buckfastleigh, which includes the neighbouring abbey village of Buckfast, is situated on the southern edge of eastern Dartmoor within the National Park. The library is housed in the Town Hall, where the provision of books and papers for the local working population dates back to a reading room provided by the Hamlyns, the local Mill owners. Today, the town still retains much of its character and charm despite periods of hardship.
The library is open on five days a week and hosts a number of events and activities, as well as offering free computer use and a wide variety of books for all ages. The active Friends of Buckfastleigh Library Group also supports the library with fundraising activities and hosting author events and summer activities.

Devon Gardens Trust seeks to promote and protect Devon’s designed landscape heritage – its parks, gardens and cemeteries of special historic interest - for future generations. Those designed landscapes may date back at least five hundred years whilst others have been created in the last fifty; they may be small, less than an acre, or comprise hundreds of acres; they may be associated with a famous owner, designer or horticulturist; they may be an important example of their time. Each landscape is unique and has a story to tell. We work with owners, managers and local authorities to ensure that those gardens, parks and cemeteries of special historic importance are recognised and conserved. To achieve this we
- undertake research and record the current status of designed landscapes
- comment on planning proposals affecting important designed landscapes
- support conservation projects, including by giving grants
- encourage and support education in horticulture and the historic designed landscape, including awarding bursaries and grants
- promote public awareness and understanding of designed landscapes
- organise talks, conferences, study days and visits for members and others
- publish articles and books

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. The IPCC was created to provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on climate change, its implications and potential future risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation options.
Through its assessments, the IPCC determines the state of knowledge on climate change. It identifies where there is agreement in the scientific community on topics related to climate change, and where further research is needed. The reports are drafted and reviewed in several stages, thus guaranteeing objectivity and transparency. The IPCC does not conduct its own research. IPCC reports are neutral, policy-relevant but not policy-prescriptive. The assessment reports are a key input into the international negotiations to tackle climate change. Created by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988, the IPCC has 195 Member countries. In the same year, the UN General Assembly endorsed the action by WMO and UNEP in jointly establishing the IPCC.

The Devonshire Association (DA) was founded in 1862 and is now an educational charity dedicated to the study and appreciation of all matters relating to the county of Devon in south-west England. It is the only society concerned with every aspect of Devon and is the only one of its kind in Britain.
Our patron is the Dowager Countess of Devon, who helps us to raise the Association’s profile by lending her name to it. The organisation consists of an annually elected President; an Executive Committee; seven regional Branches (Axe Valley, Bideford, East Devon, Exeter, Plymouth, South Devon, and Tavistock); and eight specialist Sections (Botany, Buildings, Entomology, Geology, History, Industrial Archaeology, Literature & Art, and Music).
Each Branch and Section has its own committee and organises its own annual programme of events. Branch programmes are more broadly-based than their specialist counterparts. Over one hundred activities are run each year in all parts of the county – talks, exhibitions, excursions, walks, field trips, symposia, concerts and courses. Major annual events include the Annual Conference, held in a different Devon town each year, and the President’s Symposium.
The most significant record of the Association’s activities is contained in its annual volumes of Transactions which have documented a wide range of research on Devon since 1863. The set of Transactions is the greatest single source of information anywhere about the county – volume 151 will be published late in 2019.

We’re placing people at the heart of tackling climate change.
We exist because climate change doesn’t communicate itself, even with the increasing number of climate impacts. We help people understand this complex issue in ways that resonate with their sense of identity, values and worldview. Informed consent and support from people across society and around the world creates what we call a social mandate for climate action – and we believe it’s how real change happens.
Our organisation was founded in 2004 as the first British charity to focus exclusively on public engagement with climate change. We’re proud of the impact we’re having, which you can learn more about in our 2019 Annual review.
