Sustainable Tiverton is part of the Transition Network, which inspires and supports communities to become more sustainable in the face of climate change – building resilience, supporting bio-diversity and reducing CO2 emissions. We encourage local projects that combat global warming and environmental damage; by supporting community groups to set up, run activities and events, get publicity, and work with others nearby.

ReRooted Community Cafe

*** Sorry, public events have been cancelled during Lockdown 3. ***

What is ReRooted?

ReRooted is a volunteer run community group using surplus food to create tasty meals on a “pay as you feel” basis.

We held our first public event in July 2017. Until March 2020 our events were on the first Saturday of each month at St Georges Extension, Tiverton.

We aim to:

  • help prevent shop and supermarket food from going to waste
  • support people to waste less food in their homes
  • improve nutrition and reduce hunger
  • bring the community together through food and help prevent loneliness

Tiverton Tree Team

January 2021 The tree team have been offered a parcel of land by MDDC and are excited about establishing a community orchard containing locally sourced apple trees, other species of fruit and nut trees, an edible hedge and wildlife areas with seating. Although we would love to get on with the planting, we are at present unable to involve the community in the way we would like to, and so may have to wait until the autumn. We are, however, gathering the materials together thanks to donations from MDDC and the Mayor, and so will hopefully be in a position to go ahead with planting this spring should restrictions be lifted.

Green Transport Tiverton

Green Transport Tiverton aims to raise awareness about more sustainable and active ways of getting around and encourage people to use them. The group currently has a strong focus on cycling which has resulted in the Active Families Tiverton project.

Active Families Tiverton encourages adults (mums, dads and grandparents) to cycle with the children they look after. 6 bikes and trailers are available for them to use, including helmets. At the moment the rides are led by a trained cycle instructor but the hope is that someone from within the community will take on the role of ride leader in the near future. The project has been supported and funded by Active Devon and Mid Devon District Council.
