The Association was founded in 1846 to:
- Conserve and promote the Valley’s Architecture and the Built Environment
- Protect and enhance the Valley’s Landscape and Amenities
- Record the Local History of the valley
We are a Charity and we:
- Own and manage over 40 acres of land in the Sid Valley for the benefit of the public
- Own and run Sidmouth Museum
- Maintain nearly 60 miles of public rights of way and the River in our land
- Run events, walks and talks
- Produce magazines and other publications of local interest
- Administer the SVA's Keith Owen Fund which awards grants to local organisations
